309 Honey is one of the oldest beekeeping family located in the heart of the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand. They have been harvesting Manuka Honey for the past number of years and are famous amongst honey experts for their top grade Manuka Honey. 

 

Methylglyoxal (MGO) is a major antibacterial component of Manuka Honey and it is used to measure its strength.This honey is tested and certified at a minimum 350 MGO. It is considered a premium Manuka Honey.

The Manuka bush is covered in white flowers for four weeks of the year during mid-summer and the slopes of both mountains and valleys are covered. Methylglyoxal - the active anti-bacterial compound in Manuka Honey MGO Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains.

For instance, MGO 350+ Manuka Honey has been tested and is certified to contain at least 350mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal

Methylglyoxal is the active compound directly responsible for the antibacterial activity of any Manuka honey and the MGO rating clearly indicates the minimum level of this compound in each jar. No other system of measurement gives such a clear and simple indication. The higher the Methylglyoxal content of MGO Manuka Honey, the stronger the antibacterial activity.
